An order set is a group of quick orders that require a minimum number of prompts. Your Clinical Coordinator can create order sets for your site.
The purpose of order sets is to streamline ordering. With order sets, you click order set once and then complete any necessary dialogs as CPRS steps each order sequentially. If the orders require no additional information, you can place multiple orders with a single click.
Common order sets might be the following:
· Admission Orders
· Pre-op
· Discharge Orders
You can create (or ask your Clinical Coordinator to create) order sets, for commonly ordered groups of tests, medications, procedures, and so on. For example, your emergency room clinician might commonly order CBC, Chem 7, and other tests. These orders could be combined into an order set.
Can I Place a Menu on an Order Set?
You can also now place menus on order sets. Placing menus on order sets allows you to have an order set that will process through a number of orders, and as one of those steps, it will open another menu containing quick orders or other order sets. This will allow you to select the tests or orders that match the situation.
Order sets and menus on order sets are created using List Manager's Menu Management feature.
What Is the Small Window that Appears Doing?
When an order set is being processed, a small window appears showing the items in the order set. When each item is finished, a check appears in the box in front of the item. The set can be interrupted by pressing stop on this window.
